Estanc Contributes to Finland's First Industrial-Scale Green Hydrogen Plant

On March 17, President Alar Karis visited Estanc to learn more about our company’s activities and discuss the digitalization of production and export opportunities.

This week, Finland’s first industrial green hydrogen production plant, built by P2X Solutions Oy, was officially opened in Harjavalta, Finland. Estanc produced six tanks for the facility, including gaseous hydrogen and oxygen tanks.

Herkko Plit, the founder and CEO of P2X Solutions, emphasized that Finland is in an excellent position to become a globally influential country in clean hydrogen and its fuel derivatives. He added that the next step is to expand the hydrogen economy in Finland by establishing new production units.

The President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, stated at the event that the hydrogen economy is crucial for reducing industrial emissions in Finland and offers significant growth opportunities for the country. The plant marks the beginning of the hydrogen economy era, during which green hydrogen and its derivatives, including e-fuels, will enable substantial emission reductions in several sectors, including industrial production, land, sea, and air transport. By replacing fossil energy sources, green hydrogen makes it possible for these industries to achieve carbon neutrality and comply with fuel legislation that will come into effect in the coming years..

In addition to environmental benefits, the hydrogen economy also offers significant economic growth opportunities for Finland. According to forecasts, by the mid-2030s, the hydrogen economy could create over 115,000 new jobs in Finland and account for up to 13% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

At the opening event, Estanc was represented by Margus Saks, the Sales Manager involved in the project, and Kert Kokamägi, the Lead Engineer.
